Henry Watkins was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Following a vague commitment to Columbia University, he abandoned all hope of being taken seriously. He started his career working for Joan Rivers, and first heard of the Groundlings when he took a class from one of his heroes, Phil Hartman. He moved west and found a mentor in Groundlings founder Gary Austin and began to perform improv, sketch, and stand up constantly. He became an alumni of the music improv revue Second City Sings, Patrick Bristow’s Improvatorium, and the ACME Comedy Theatre, all while doing standup at The Comedy Store, The Improv, and many smellier comedy clubs. Henry earned his SAG card being cast by another comedy hero, Christopher Guest. His TV credits include American Horror Story, Superstore, The Young and the Restless, Jeopardy, and Tosh.O along with several pilots that didn’t get picked up. He has also appeared in over 100 commercials, including as national spokesman for Dish Network, Pictsweet Farms, and Direct TV’s NASCAR Hot Pass. His amazing daughter Matilda was born when he was part of the smallest Groundlings Sunday Company in history, and he is still tired. In 2023, he created the Wombats, a women’s pro soccer team in the spirit of the Harlem Globetrotters, who are poised to conquer the world.
