Improv Workshop A
Improv Workshop A teaches the fundamentals of improvisation for the non-professional actor. This class is also good for the actor with little to no experience in improv. Build self-confidence, develop your creativity, experiment, have fun and make new friends. No audition required.

Improv Workshop B
Improv Workshop B builds on the fundamentals of improvisation in Improv Workshop A.

Intro to Sketch Writing
Intro to Sketch Writing focuses on developing skills in comedic sketch writing. Students will learn the different styles and types of sketches as well as daily techniques for successful and fun sketch writing. This is an introductory writing class.
Pre-requisite: Improv Workshop A or Basic Level One

Improv & Beyond
This class will use your real life experiences and improve sense memory to connect the improviser to the actor within. Classes include relaxation and movement, character development, cold reading, auditioning, Shakespeare improv and many great improv games. This class is open to anyone, no pre-requisite. Taught by Suzanne Kent, one of the founding members of the Groundlings.

Schedule for Improv Workshop classes
A class session starts approximately every six (6) weeks. Classes meet once a week for six (6) weeks (with the exception of December intensives which meet twice a week for three (3) weeks). The days the classes meet will vary from session to session but we offer a wide selection of choices.
Evening Classes meet 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Day Classes meet 10:00am - 1:00pm or 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Lower Division - Technique Track
Level One - Basic
Basic teaches the fundamentals of improvisation, improvisational choices and self-confidence through the use of theater games and exercises. Audition required.

Auditions for Level One - Basic
Students must pass an audition to get into Level One - Basic. Auditions are run by a Groundlings teacher and are mini versions of a first day of class. The audition is free, a group audition and all improvisation, so you don't need to prepare anything. Auditions are held every week and can be scheduled by calling the school office. If you pass the audition, your results are valid for one year. If you do not pass the audition, you are allowed to audition again in six months. Students are allowed to audition a total of three (3) times for the Level One - Basic class. No guests or spectators are allowed in the audition. Click here to schedule an audition.

A class session starts approximately every six (6) weeks. Classes meet twice a week for six (6) weeks or once a week for twelve (12) weeks if during a full session. The days the classes meet will vary from session to session but we offer a wide selection of choices.

Day Classes meet 10:00am - 1:30pm or 3 - 6:30pm

Level Two - Intermediate
Intermediate uses the skills developed in Basic to concentrate on scene work and character development in both improvisational scenes and monologues.
Permission from Level One. Basic instructor’s permission to advance to Level Two is required.

Advancement
At the end of Level One - Basic, students meet privately with their teacher regarding their work. The teacher will recommend that the student move to the next level, repeat Basic, or be dismissed from the school. Upon completion of Intermediate, the teacher will recommend that the student repeat Intermediate, be dismissed from the school or advance to the Performance Track.

Upper Division - Performance Track
Level Three - Writing Lab
Level Three - Writing Lab is an intensive workout with an emphasis on writing. It finishes with a performance before an invited audience of material created in class. Must have passed Intermediate.

*Upper Division classes are not offered as often as Lower Division classes. Upon completion of Intermediate, students are placed on a waiting list for Writing Lab.*
Level Four - Advanced
Level Four - Advanced works as an "improv group" to develop material (both scripted and improvised) for two performances - one at the halfway point and another at the end of the session.
Permission from Writing Lab instructor to advance is required.

NOTE: At this level, students are reviewed by Groundlings company members and may be invited into the Groundlings Sunday Company.

TEEN IMPROV CLASSES
The Groundlings School offers five-week improv performance workshop, which culminate in a performance on the Groundlings stage. The cost is $355.
We also offer weeklong summer workshops, which also culimate in a performance and cost $355. The schedule of Summer 2012 classes will be posted in early March.
The school occasionally holds one-day teen workshops throughout the school year as well.

Registration
How to Register for a Class
Students may only enroll in class starting on the appropriate registration/sign up day. To enroll, students may register two ways:
1) Online, with credit card
2) IN PERSON, with cash, check or credit card. WE START SIGN UP AT 10:00AM SHARP! A minimum non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $55 (applied to the student's tuition) is required at the time of enrollment. We do not offer refunds. The student is solely responsible for finding out registration dates, registering and paying for classes.
**Each session we offer as many different times as our space allows. Basic and Intermediate classes will be offered twice a week for six weeks and once a week for twelve weeks.
