Which classes do you award scholarships for?
We award scholarships for classes in the Intro Track (Workshop A and Workshop B), and the Core Track (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Improv). We also offer scholarships for teens.
Lab Track scholarships are not currently being offered due to the fact that we are unable to hold in-person public performances.
Who can apply?
We are open to receiving applications from anyone who considers themselves a strong candidate for a Diversity Scholarship.
Do I have to audition before applying for the scholarship? (Yes!)
There is no audition specifically for the scholarship, however to receive a scholarship for a Core Track class, you must pass a Core Track audition with the School, before your application can be considered. Scholarship for Teens or Intro Track classes do not require an audition, just the submitted application. You can schedule your free audition by clicking here.
What if I can’t audition before the application deadline?
Your application will not be considered. Please apply for the next round of scholarships.
How often do you award scholarships?
Scholarships are offered every three months.
Can this be my first class with The Groundlings School?
How much are the scholarship awards?
Most awards are for half the cost of a class, which enable us to offer more each round. We do, however, offer some awards for a full class. The application form will ask you to articulate your needs. One full scholarship for Writing Lab is provided each round, with some additional partial awards.
When will I be notified of a scholarship award?
All applicants will receive notification via email approximately four weeks after the application deadline.
By what criteria are applications reviewed?
Each application is read by at at least 3 members of our Diversity Committee, which is made up of teachers, Main Company, and Groundlings staff. The school is actively seeking to diversify its student population. With that in mind, applications are reviewed according to the following criteria:
- Does the applicant attempt to thoughtfully and fully answer each question?
- Do they state clear goals?
- Do they convey a sincere desire to train at The Groundlings?
- Do they articulate why they want to train at The Groundlings?
- Do they demonstrate an understanding or appreciation for improv, especially at the Groundlings?
- Do they speak from a perspective or point of view that is unique to them?
